Spectators at the Mountbatten Centre

We have reluctantly taken the decision that we will have no spectators for sessions 11 and 13 in the third weekend of the championships (24th/25th February) at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth.

The maximum capacity of the pool deck is 250 including coaches and officials. We have between 270 and 280 swimmers in those two sessions, which means that we will need to locate more than half of the swimmers away from the pool deck. Because of roof repairs, much of the centre other than the pool area is closed, meaning that the only overflow area for swimmers is the gallery.

We will allow spectators for sessions 10 and 12, but will need to clear the gallery at the end of those sessions.

Our volunteers

Hampshire Counties is organised and run entirely by volunteers. Our volunteers do all sorts of things including officiating, booking pools, marshalling swimmers, calculating qualifying times, processing entries, operating the video, updating the website…. We couldn’t run counties without our volunteers and would like to express our thanks to everybody who helped.

If you’d be interesting in helping with next year’s competition please get in touch (email addresses are below).

Counties 2025

One of our long-term dedicated volunteers will be stepping back from their role after counties 2024. Consequently, we are looking for volunteers to help next year.

In particular we would be interested in anybody who would be willing to oversee the video equipment and anybody who would be wiling to organise spectators. If we cannot fill these roles then we may not be able to accept spectators or offer video for the 2025 championship.

We would also be interested in hearing from anybody who would be willing to project manage counties 2025.

Schedule of events

County Championships 2024: Schedule of events

Note:

  • Finish times are estimates
  • The main 50m pool will be available for use during any breaks indicated on the schedule
  • Swimmers in last heats of the 1500m may prefer to warm-up in the break. For the 1500m we will publish start lists the evening before to ensure swimmers know which heats they will be in. Any swimmers considering this option, must discuss this with their coach.
  • Relays swimmers in session 11 must warm-up in break (unless swimming an individual event). This is to reduce the risk of over-crowding poolside and during warm-up. This break will be 40 minutes along to allow two separate sessions in the main pool (Female then Open/Male). W.e will publish a “not before” time for the break closer to the day

Officials

All the officials at counties are volunteers and we cannot run the meet without their support.

If you are interested in being part of the officials team please sign up here: https://swim-meet.com/Availability/?m=2104

Withdrawals

Withdrawals should be notified using this form.

After the start of each session, submit an explanation for failing to report at the start for any event using this form. In the absence of an appropriate explanation, a fine of £10 will be imposed.

If you are a swimmer or parent/guardian who is submitting the withdrawal please ensure you also notify your club.

Note: There are planned capacity limits for the number of swims at the competition. When we accept entries we slightly exceed these limits because we expect some withdrawals. For this reason we do not normally accept further entries when withdrawals occur.

Withdrawals: Relays

Withdrawals of the WHOLE TEAM from a relay should notified using this form. This form may only be completed by a club representative.

If you are an individual who can no longer be part of your club’s relay team you must notify your club directly.
